Jean and Barbara grew up as Higgins sisters in a family of three girls. Our mother Ruby nurtured in us the love of good cooking and great eating. She is a truly great cook. She considered it her duty to teach us to cook before we left the house - an old fashioned value that we cherish. She still makes the world's best fried chicken and home made (from scratch already) pies and cakes. It's a passion we want to share with others in keeping the art alive and well.
Jean is a geriatrician by profession. If you're not familiar with that term, that is a physician who takes care of older adults. She not only loves to cook, but also has a love for gardening and music. Her favorite recipes are salads, vegetable dishes and desserts. Her husband is also an expert cook (or chef as he prefers to call himself). He is a meat and potatoes man (how surprising is that), but boy oh boy can he do wonders with meat and potatoes. They have two adult sons and four grandchildren who love to come to grandma and grandpa's house to eat. He recently had heart surgery but is recovering well and served meat from the cooker for Mother's day.
Barbara (we call her B.A.) has been a physical therapist for nearly 16 years. She has two grown kids and four grandchildren. A few years ago her married daughter made a date one night a week for mom to come over and teach her how to cook something new. This not only gave them a chance for some quality time, but expanded her daughter's ability to organize her meals, timewise, and expand the variety in her cooking. They made pizza from scratch and did a couple of casseroles that even her husband and one year old daughter would eat, and it didn't take all night to do. She and her husband love to cook and entertain. Her husband had rotator cuff surgery the same day Jeans husband had heart surgery. He also is recovering well. Barb also loves a pretty flower bed and is the "artsy" one.
Family is very important to both of us and any occasion is an opportunity to get together, bring a dish and share recipes.
